Madrid: Barcelona has sacked Eric Abidal as sporting director, announced the club on a Tuesday, a day after firing coach Quique Setien.
“FC Barcelona and Eric Abidal have reached an agreement for the termination of the contract between them,” the club said on their website.
Like Setién, Abidal, a former foreign defender from France, paid the penalty after Barca ended a season of internal clashes by giving the la Liga name to Real Madrid and then suffering a humiliating 8–2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Barca, who is expected to name Ronald Koeman as his new coach after firing Quique Setien, will be to regain the Spanish name after completing the moment last season against Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will miss the start of next La Liga season after undergoing knee surgery that will rule him out for two and a half months, the club said.

Barca is now on the verge of the crusade on 12 September with Brazilian goalkeeper Neto, 31, who played five games in all competitions last season after signing for Valencia.
Until German Ter Stegen returns to action, Neto will face the 21-year-old Iñaki Pena festival, the substitute goalkeeper who has not yet debuted in the first team.
