Barcelona meet Manchester United’s asking price for Mason Greenwood

NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Barcelona have told Manchester United they will cover the €60 million (£51. 3 million) they are asking for Mason Greenwood, according to reports in Spain.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan after United allowed the 22-year-old to leave Old Trafford in the final hour of last summer’s transfer window.

The striker has played for United since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, controlling conduct and assault.

Greenwood had all fees withdrawn against him last February and United reinstated him to Erik ten Hag’s side before the club suffered backlash over his return.

Earlier this week, United’s director of football, John Murtough, and director of football negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, met with Barcelona director Deco and two CAA grassroots agents, Frank Tramboli and Fede Massai, in Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, United have held talks about a possible deal for Greenwood and to assess Barcelona’s interest.

However, the report states that Barcelona have made it clear that they will not achieve United’s valuation, with the Premier League asking for a payment of between €40 million (£34. 2 million) and €60 million (£51. 3 million).

It is understood that United’s value is outside Barcelona’s budget, the Spanish champions are keeping an eye on Greenwood’s progress at Getafe.

United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already left the door open for Greenwood’s return and said a new resolution will be made relating to the striker’s future.
