Barcelona needs Neymar to give back about $12 million

MADRID, Spain (AP) – Barcelona sued Neymar for almost $12 million, the amount the club believes it over paid the Brazilian the time he played in Spain, a user said wisely in the case on Wednesday.

The user said Barcelona over-paid Neymar to avoid tax irregularities imaginable while the government was investigating his move from Brazilian club Santos in 2013. Calculations recently completed through the tax government showed that the club did not have to pay the 10 million euros ($11. 8 million), so it asks the player to return that amount.

The user spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it is not legal to make public comments on the matter.

Neymar’s representatives told AP they would comment on the case.

Neymar played for Barcelona from 2013 to 2017 before joining French club Paris Saint-Germain with a record move of 222 million euros ($262 million).

Neymar and Barcelona have been accused through the Spanish Government of irregularities in the brazilian’s transfer to the Catalan club, adding to hide the actual amount that had been paid to Santos at the time.

Everyone refused to have acted wrong.

The Spanish tax government said in September that Neymar owed 34. 6 million euros ($40. 8 million) in taxes for his tenure in Spain, the country’s non-public debt last year.

Barcelona experienced monetary difficulties this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, lowered players’ salaries earlier in the year and continued to negotiate wage changes to reduce costs.

The Catalan club has also been going through an internal crisis since the shameful 8–2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, with Lionel Messi finally asking to leave the club and the resignation of President Josep Bartomeu and his management.

Messi stayed, Bartomeu’s gone.
