Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has shown the club’s goal of appointing Ronald Koeman as its new coach.
The Dutch coach, who played for Barca between 1989 and 1995, demonstrated in the replacement of Quique Setien after being closely linked to the role.
In an interview broadcast by the club on Tuesday night, Bartomeu said: “If nothing goes wrong, Koeman will coach Barca next season.

Setien opened on Monday after Friday’s surprising 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, which also commissioned his post from sporting director Eric Abidal.
And Bartomeu also indicated that Koeman, who is on contract with the Dutch national team until the 2022 World Cup, was Setien’s first forward pick when he named him in January this year.
“We bet on him, ” continued Bartomeu. “It’s the component of The ‘Dream Team’ of (Johan) Cruyff. This is the first one we called in January. It’s a dream for him.”
The aftermath of Friday’s surprise defeat also included the hypothesis that star player Lionel Messi could end his long deal with the club, but Bartomeu canceled it by saying that the 33-year-old would be the key to Koeguy’s appearance next season.
“I spoke to Koeman and the mainstay of our mission is Messi,” he said. “He has a contract until 2021, I communicate a lot with Leo and more with his father.
“He’s the number one in the world. There is no doubt that in Koeman’s new project, you can handle Messi.”
