Bayer Leverkusen signed German under-21 Nadiem Amiri of Hoffenheim

The 22-year-old midfielder followed former Hoffenheim teammate Kerem Demirbay to Leverkusen, the pen on a five-year contract with the team that finished fourth in Germany last season.

Amiri’s recent maximum in action for Germany at the European Under-21 Championships in Italy this summer, scoring twice in the last 4 and once in the final, as his team finished at a moment ahead of Spain.

“Thanks to his pace, determination, strong preference for returning to the surface and exceptional technical skills, Nadiem Amiri is precisely the type of player we were for,” said Leverkusen sports director Simon Rolfes.

“The fact that he has already been part of groups along with players such as Kerem Demirbay, Jonathan Tah, Mitchell Weiser and Kevin Volland will temporarily integrate him into our team.”

Amiri missed the top of the first part of last season due to injury, but his impressive performances with the German under-21 team convinced Leverkusen to switch to a player they had been following for a long time.

The Hoffenheim Academy graduate, who made thirteen of his 106 Bundesliga games last season, said it was “exactly” the right step for him to join a team that plays “offensive and horny football.”

“Of course I can’t wait to play in the Champions League next season,” Amiri told Leverkusen’s website.

“But I’m more interested in the team. The team is very good, with young and talented players, as well as experienced professionals with which you can be informed and work.”

Leverkusen lost Julian Brandt to Borussia Dortmund before this summer, but Amiri is the fourth thrilling arrival at BayArena in the 2019/20 season. In addition to new signing and fellow midfielder Demirbay, former Paris Saint-German striker Moussa Diaby and former left-back Ajax Daley Sinkgraven also hope to make their league deyet for Peter Bosz against Paderborn on 17 August.
