24 February 2002: Leverkusen 4-0 Dortmund
Leverkusen and Dortmund were second and first respectively in the Bundesliga when they met on matchday 24 of the 2001/02 season, but the fight for the top of the table temporarily became a very one-sided affair. It was the first time both teams had scored six goals in a Bundesliga match, even though Dortmund had won 7-0 in the second division in December 1975. There was a real see-saw thriller at the BayArena midway through 2019/2020, with Volland giving the hosts a 20th-minute lead against the run of play. A year and a half after Leverkusen beat a classic seven-goal team, Dortmund got back on track by beating another, and there were some familiar themes. The hosts took the lead early on, this time thanks to 18-year-old Florian. Erling Haaland equalised with a header for BVB, before Patrik Schick regained Leverkusen’s lead on the counter-attack.
