BERLIN (AP) — The Bundesliga is over.
Karim Adeyemi and Jude Bellingham scored twice as Borussia Dortmund sent a message to league leaders Bayern Munich with a 6-0 thrashing of Wolfsburg on Sunday.
Sebastien Haller and Donyell Malen scored as Dortmund restored the one-point hole against Bayern with 3 league games remaining.
10-time defending champions Bayern extended their lead to four problems with a win over Werder Bremen on Saturday, a strain on Dortmund, which lost the lead last weekend with a 1-1 draw in Bochum.
Wolfsburg had conceded nothing in their last 3 games and had scored 8 goals in the last two.
But Adeyemi put Dortmund ahead with the first game in the 14th minute, jumping up to beat a defender in Julian Ryerson’s centre, and then setting Haller up for the moment in the 29th.
Between goals, Dortmund needed goalkeeper Gregor Kobel by their side to deny Patrick Wimmer in a one-on-one with Mats Hummels diving past Jakub Kaminski from the rebound.
Kobel also produced a flying save to thwart an effort by Kaminski before Julian Brandt set Malen up for the third goal of the 37th.
Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels deflected Bellingham’s shot over the crossbar, but the ball flew over the line in the 54th, five minutes before Adeyemi scored the second.
The German striker missed his to score a hat-trick by firing a penalty over the crossbar in the 65th, but Dortmund fans and coach Edin Terzić tried to console him when he went to Gio Reyna 4 minutes later.
Brandt directed the ball to Bellingham to complete the victory in the 86th.
