Harry Kane scored his 22nd Bundesliga goal of the season as Bayern Munich beat Hoffenheim in an emotional night of tributes to German Franz Beckenbauer at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern players wore T-shirts with the words “danke Franz” written on the front on their first kit since former player Beckenbauer died on Sunday at the age of 78.
Jamal Musiala scored either side before England captain Kane scored the third for the hosts.
Bayern’s moment in the table.
The Bavarians, who have lost just one of their 16 league matches so far, are one point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern struggled to find their rhythm in an emotionally charged pre-season, with many tributes to Beckenbauer, who made 582 appearances for the club and then controlled them.
The home team warmed up dressed in the former World Cup winner’s iconic number five and sang “Gute Freunde,” a song recorded by Beckenbauer in the 1960s, before kickoff.
It had been a quiet night for former Tottenham striker Kane before his ferocious late shot into the most sensitive corner, heading wide from a well-placed spot and then flamboyantly over the bar after Hoffenheim were reduced to 10 men after Grischa Promel was sent off for two reserves.
Kane’s former Spurs teammate Eric Dier, who also signed for the German giants on Thursday, is not included in their squad.
