Bayern Munich ‘line up Premier League boss as Xabi Alonso considers staying at Bayer Leverkusen’

BAYERN MUNICH are a control option for Xabi Alonso in the form of Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, reports suggest.

The 42-year-old Alonso is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table at the end of the season.

What appear to be his two main suitors, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, have coaches who leave at the end of the season, Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp, respectively.

However, despite the interest in Alonso’s services, which reportedly included behind-the-scenes talks, there is no guarantee of a meeting.

The Spaniard is yet to make a decision on his long career and it is possible that he will still remain at Leverkusen next season.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern are already an alternative.

The most sensible on the list is De Zerbi, who is said to be a big fan of the club’s sporting director Max Eberl.

De Zerbi should have been informed of Bavaria’s interest.

Even if Bayern are missing two managerial targets, Barcelona, another club for a new coach this summer, also shortlisted the 44-year-old Italian.

Christian Falk added on CaughtOffside that Alonso could still play for Real Madrid in 2026 as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, as this coincides with the expiry of his contract at Leverkusen.

Alonso guided his Leverkusen team to an unbeaten start to the season.

They are ten things clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, they are in the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal and face a Europa League quarter-final against West Ham.

In De Zerbi’s case, the Seagulls haven’t fared as well as they did last season.

They are in eighth place in the Premier League lately, were knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in fifth and third place respectively and were beaten in the round of 16 of the Europa League by Roma.

Although he has a lot of loans in the bank thanks to his functionality last season.
