BC Hydro says it plans to continue flaring at the Site C project once adequate ventilation and soil conditions are met.

Crews have disposed of wood waste from the project, according to a news release, and burning is expected to take place through March in the Portage Mountain quarry domain and along the north and south banks of the Peace River between the Site C dam site and Peace Canyon.

“The public could enjoy increased smoke and reduced visibility of wood burning and disposal. Project Site C conscientiously plans and monitors burns, taking into account the timing, length and location of wood piles, and the smoke emitted,” the report adds.

Burning activities may only be conducted in traditional ventilation windows permitted under Site C’s express provincial regulations.

If citizens see a wildfire or wildfire, they should promptly contact BC Wildfire Service at 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a mobile phone.
