DETROIT (AP) – Javier Beez hit two home races and the Chicago Cubs were the time in the franchise in primary league history to win 11,000, beating the Detroit Tigers 9-3 on Monday night.
Only the Giants have won more, with 11,179 wins later in New York in 1883 and then moved to San Francisco.
The Cubs, who won their first game in 1876, rose to 11,000-10.414. The Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers have just 10,996 wins.
David Bote hit a house run and towed four races for the National League Central Division Cubs. Beez had three RBIs.
The Cubs’ starter, Alec Mills (3-2), took the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits and one base per ball while withdrawing seven.
The Tigers’ hope, Casey Mize (0-1), made his first start from home, allowing 4 runs – 3 earned – in five hits and two goals in 3 0.33 innings. He got two of them.
BLUE JAYS 6, RAYS 4
St. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) – Randal Grichuk hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning and Toronto beat Tampa Bay.
Reliever Aaron Loup (3-2) replaced Edgar Garcia with an out and one out. After Cavan Biggio made the receiver’s interference, Grichuk gave Toronto a 5-3 lead with his seventh home race.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. scored for the Blue Jays and Thomas Hatch (2-1) worked two blank innings to claim victory. Jordan Romano worked ninth for his momentary stop.
Yoshi Tsutsugo and Willy Adames scored for Tampa Bay.
MARLINS 11, NATIONAL 8
WASHINGTON (AP) – Aguilar led in 3 issues and Miami beat Washington, winning three games of the series.
Aguilar’s two-race double-component in a massive third inning for Miami opposite national opener Austin Voth (0-3). The Marlins scored five runs with two outs and six in total, turning a one-point lead into a 7-0 lead.
Pablo Lopez (3-1) allowed six hits and three runs, none won, in five counterfeit innings.
Adam Eaton hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning for Washington, his time of the season, and tied for the top of his career with four RBIs. Juan Soto went 4 of 5 for Washington, who has alternated victories and losses in his last 11 games.
Brandon Kintzler got his sixth save of the season.
Twins 3, Indian 2
CLEVELAND (AP) – Miguel Sano hit a two-run home run and Nelson Cruz hit a single shot to lead Minnesota injury to Cleveland.
He hit a house race in the sixth inning against Aaron Civale (3-3).
The Twins, who have several regular players and two pitchers on the disabled list, lead the Indians in two and a half games.
Kenta Maeda (4-0) ceded a first home race in Caesar Hernandez, then dodged it for the next four before handing him over to the Minnesota bullpen.
Carlos Santana’s single RBI with two outs in Trevor May’s seventh reduced the Twins’ lead to 3-2. But the right shook him and pulled batter Franmil Reyes with runners in the corners to top off the threat.
Taylor Rogers worked ninth for his seventh save.
Cleveland returned without director Terry Francona, who underwent surgery for a gastrointestinal illness last week. Francona, 61, has missed 15 of the club’s 29 games.
RANGERS 3, ATLETISMO 2
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Lance Lynn withdrew 8 goals at a start to a hit and career, Isiah-Kiner Falefa achieved an approval ring and Texas ended his 8-match losing streak with a win over American League leaders Oakland.
Kiner-Falefa hit a single shot in the inning through Jesús Luzardo (2-1), breaking a 2-2 draw to put the Rangers ahead to stay.
The Watchers had led only one of the 74 innings in which they played their longest streak of losses in the majors.
Lynn (4-0) pitched 105 pitches in six innings. After allowing 3 hits, two walks and hitting a batter in the first 1 2/3 innings, Lynn withdrew 12 of the last 14 batters he faced.
Rafael Montero had the last 4 outs for his sixth save on the same number of opportunities, the longest starting streak of the season in Rangers history.
Stephen Piscotty achieved his fifth house race of the season. Luzardo withdrew seven and walked two in 6 2/3 innings.
BREWERS 4, TINTOS 2
MILWAUKEE (AP) – Justin Smoak hit a house run and pushed three-run races while Milwaukee cooled Trevor Bauer and broke a four-game houser with a win over Cincinnati.
Omar Narváez added a solo shot for the Brewers to win their first 10-game house game.
Bauer (3-1) the game with 0.68 MPM that led the majors, but lost 4-0 in the first 4 innings while the Brewers reversed their slow start trend of the season.
He finished with seven hits, 4 runs and two walks in 6 0.33 innings.
The Brewers’ starter, Brett Anderson (2-2), kept the Reds scoreless in the first inning before ceding the lead to Curt Casali in sixth and Eugenio Suarez in the seventh. Anderson allowed hits and one base by balls with three strikeouts.
Devin Williams, David Phelps and Josh Hader kept the Reds unlucky the rest of the time.
CARDINALS 9, ROYAL 3
St. LOUIS (AP) – Paul DeJong scored three runs in his game at the moment after fighting COVID-19 and Jack Flaherty pitched five blank innings for St. Louis to beat Kansas City.
Paul Goldschmidt connected a house race and towed three for the Cardinals, who won four out of five.
Flaherty (2-0) allowed a hit in an effort of 64 pitches. He retired three and walked on a batter.
Brad Keller (3-1) in the fifth after dropping 3 singles and one base per ball to start the inning.
Jorge Soler hit his seventh home run of the season for the Royals, a three-run shot in the sixth inning opposite Alex Reyes.
Brad Miller hit three hits and reached base four times for St. Louis, which has won 12 of the last 15 games between interstate rivals.
Kansas City lost four out of five.
ASTROS 11, ANGELS 4
HOUSTON (AP) – Framber Valdez set a career-high in seven innings and Carlos Correa drove three runs while Houston hit a three-game home run with a win over the Angels.
Angel star Albert Pujols overcame Alex Rodriguez on the career-DRIVEN list with a bachelor for his 2087 inning. Hank Aaron is the record holder with 2297 – Babe Ruth is next on some lists with 2214, 224 occurred before the RBI became an official statistic in 1920.
Valdez (3-2) allowed six hits and 4 runs for his third straight win.
Justin Upton hit a house run and David Fletcher had three hits for the Angels, who lost six of seven.
Patrick Sandoval (0-4) charged with defeat after the Astros pounced on him for seven hits and runs in 2 2/3 innings.
ROCKIES 3, DIAMONDBACKS 2
PHOENIX (AP) – Rookie Ryan Castellani pitched six innings for the first win of his career, Trevor Story hit his ninth home run of the season and Colorado broke a streak of seven consecutive losses by beating Arizona.
Colorado first baseman Raimel Tapia hit three hits and struck out with his bachelor in the fifth. He also made a catch opposite the garden wall with a long pass from Kole Calhoun that finished the seventh and probably racked up two races.
The Diamondbacks have lost six consecutive games and are in position in the National League West Division.
Castellani, 24Array1,000, allowed three hits in six innings, two solo home runs. He retired seven of the last 8 batters he faced. Daniel Bard continued his impressive back-run track by pitching a goalless ninth for his momentary save.
Arizona right Taylor Clarke made his first outing of the year after Merrill Kelly scratched before the game with a nerve injury to his right shoulder. The 27-year-old allowed two runs, but only one clean one, in 4 innings.
The Diamondbacks had solo careers by Kole Calhoun and Christian Walker.
Taylor Widener (0-1) charged with the defeat, allowing a run in two innings.
