Ben Wilson of Manvel seeks to follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle

There’s an explanation for why Ben Wilson puts the number 26 on his shirt.

Manvel’s senior corner guy is Kevin Smith, who used the number as an American cornerer in Texas A

If that didn’t have enough influence, his father and Worthing graduate Robert Wilson played in Texas A

Ben, of course, follow in his footsteps.

“It was another because I was worried about football at a young age,” Ben said. “Seeing them and seeing what they were doing, I just looked to paint hard and get to where they were. In fact, there were a lot of paintings in the first.

The senior hopes that the school’s football will also be long-term like his father and uncle. Ben is one of many seniors who will use this season as a promising springboard for scholarship offerings, even with the COVID-19 pandemic as a barrier. The era begins on December 16 and the normal era begins on February 3.

The elegant 6A and 5A school playoffs in Texas, where Manvel again favorited in Region III of 5A, begin this week through January. Manvel opens the playoffs at 7 p. m Friday at the Port Arthur Memorial.

Ben expects his ongoing paintings to bear fruit.

“I definitely tried to play at a higher point because I’m checking to get the look I need and I know I deserve it,” Ben said. “So I started running hard in practice, keeping some of the most productive receptors. I think Texas has it. I definitely check to raise my playing point and in training.

Smith, whose sister Angela is Ben’s mother and Robert’s wife, acknowledges that the pastime of the game is already rooted in the family, due to lineages. Ben’s cousin is Alex Hogan, a Lamar product recently played on Texas Tech.

Smith sees himself on the Ben 5-11 and 165 pounds. Smith weighed pounds when he arrived in Texas A

“He was a lot smaller than everyone else in minor league football and in school and that was the case for me,” Smith said. “At times, they forgot about me. I had to go out myself and that’s what I saw in him at a young age. “

Regarding his size, Ben said he constantly applies a lesson he had learned from his father and uncle: strategy and training govern everything.

Smith said he didn’t get a chance to watch his nephew play live because he lives in Dallas, which could replace whether Manvel hosted a state championship game this year.
