Big Ten Football is coming back What’s changed, what Purdue’s calendar will look like

WEST LAFAYETTE – It’s been a crazy, strange and turbulent moment in the ten big countries since the convention announced on August 11 that it would postpone the 2020 football season and other fall sports due to considerations about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

But on Wednesday morning, the sense of normalcy returned when Big Ten announced that they would begin their football season on the weekend of October 23-24.

The Big Ten Council of Presidents / Chancellors reversed a resolution made through the organization more than a month ago, via an 11-3 vote, to postpone the league’s fall sports season, adding soccer.

So what did last month, what’s the frame of the season and what does that mean?

In pronouncing its resolution Wednesday morning, Big Ten said that “daily antigenic testing, advanced cardiac screening, and an advanced data-driven approach” will be taken by taking resolutions on practice and competition, as the main reasons why it reversed its resolution. .

“Despite the frustration everyone felt over the past few weeks, I think time has been spent well,” said Purdue President Mitch Daniels. “Our groups can now move forward in much safer and more confident situations at least than we would have had in the first place, and we will be the safest convention in the country. “

Northwestern President Morton Schapiro, who chairs COP/C and the organization that runs on returning to competition, said the turning point was the weekend’s medical discussions and claimed that the medical recommendation on which it was based in early August led him to that. The Big Ten may simply not play for sure.

“Medical opinion changes. The facts have and our minds have Array,” Schapiro said at a press conference.

Look for the control regime that will apply to autumn athletes.

“We’re excited to go back to the area and play football,” said Purdue coach Jeff Brohm. “We are very grateful to have this opportunity. We also know that many things have been involved in this process, a lot of hard work, many other people who have expressed their criticism of the scenes to get answers.

“A lot of data has been presented to our administrators and sporting presidents and those things have helped us get back on the field. “

Currently, it’s a normal 8-game seasonal style (4 at home, 4 off campus sites) that begins on the weekend of October 23-24. December 19.

The schedule will be based on the original schedule of nine Big Ten games, before COVID-19, meaning Purdue deserves to have home games opposite Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern and an East Division team. Illinois and Indiana Old Oaken Bucket’s setting deserves to be a crossover game.

Conference groups will withdraw to play nine games. With the winners of each division, the ninth setting will feature the finalists that fit (2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3, etc. ), and those games can simply pass to a Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said the league would watch the replays.

The league has made a collective resolution to allow the general public to enter the stadiums this fall.

Legal supports will be the families of players and coaches.

The Big Ten will leave to end its short season without interruption.

Daily immediate testing protocols will help achieve this goal, but other meetings have already postponed matches due to positive testing in football programs. The Big Ten has been left with little or no margin for error.
