As they say, capacity is availability. And Carl Davis had that.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick on Tuesday shared an undeniable explanation for why his team got rid of Davis from the Jacksonville Jaguars practice team last week.
“He gained some pleasure and was available,” Belichick said in a video conference.
True and true.
Davis has given the impression in 32 games (for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Jaguars) since joining the NFL as a third-round national team in 2015, and NFL regulations allow groups to recruit players from any other club’s practice squad.
At six feet and five inches and 320 pounds, Davis is also the kind of big body the Patriots have been lacking since Danny Shelton’s loss at the flexible agency. Beau Allen intended to fill that void, but was injured early in education camp and spent the entire season on the disabled reserve list.
So far, the Patriots have relied on practice group calls to their defensive line. His intensity in front took another hit last week when D Byron Cowart was placed on the reserve list /COVID-19.
Training team Nick Thurman played 20 shots in Cowart’s position in Sunday’s 18-12 loss to the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium. Defensive finisher Deatrich Wise also saw more internal action than usual when Adam Butler temporarily left the game with an injury.
Davis played only three games for the Jags last season and was suspended for the first four games this season for a PED violation. made his deyet for the Patriots this Sunday in front of the San Francisco 49ers.
