Borussia Dortmund presented their failed Champions League crusade on Wednesday by beating Zenit St. Petersburg 2-0 thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland.
Dortmund sought to recover from last week’s 3-1 defeat in Lazio, but struggled to break Zenit’s organized defense until Vyacheslav Karavaev paid a penalty, which changed through Sancho.
Haaland then added a counterattack in time off for his twelfth purpose in 10 Champions League games of his career.
Haaland broke free from Zenit’s defense with a 17-year-old headbutt of Jude Bellingham and a shot between the legs of goalkeeper Mikhail Kerzhakov.
Dortmund have already won 3 of their last four matches by giving a goal, with the exception of the loss to Lazio. This recent form helped stabilize the team after a 3–2 defeat in the German Super Cup to Bayern Munich and a bundesliga defeat opposes
