Axel Witsel says everyone at Borussia Dortmund is extremely happy that Jadon Sancho stays after director Michael Zorc announced that the club had no plans to sell the striker to Manchester United.
United’s head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Vice President Ed Woodward, have prioritized a change to Sancho this summer and the 20-year-old has reportedly reached an agreement on a contract of 220,000 euros a week at Old Trafford.
But the Red Devils did not meet Dortmund’s five-August deadline to succeed in Sancho’s request for 120 million euros (107. 8 million pounds) and England’s striker flew to Switzerland with the rest of Lucien Favre’s team for preseason training.
Zorc showed that Dortmund were already making plans for the 2020/21 crusade with Sancho on their team and that the ‘decision’ was final ‘about the young man’s future.
The head of the BVB even claimed that Sancho had secretly extended his agreement until 2023 and Witsel is pleased that the move-in saga has been put to bed for now.
“He stays and we’re all happy,” said Dortmund and Belgium midfielder Sky Sports.
“Last year and the first year I arrived, he’s one of the top players on our team’s offense.
“It’s good news for us to keep it for at least one more season. “
Mats Hummels echoed these ideas in a brief verbal exchange with Dortmund’s official online website after Zorc’s surprise was announced.
“He may be the player who makes a difference,” said the German central.
“I’m glad you’re staying. “
United is understood to have been “frustrated” by Dortmund’s stubbornness, but has not yet given up hope of winning the Manchester City academy title.
Owen Hargreaves took Zorc’s with a pinch of salt and warned that BVB could simply “brag” to get more cash out of United.
Former United and Bayern Munich midfielder told BT Sport: “Bluff. They brag.
“I think he’ll be a Manchester United player in no time. They’re looking to make a little more money from that. That’s the nature of the beast. “
“Obviously they know that United is interested, they are quite heavy in the negotiations. I think they are bluffing, they know that he is going to be here at this price. “
