After signing for Real in January from Brazilian Flamengo, Reinier began his life in Spain with the club’s time team before his progress was stopped by injury.
Following in the footsteps of former Madrid lender Achraf Hakimi, the 18-year-old intends to expand strongly as a player and as a user in Dortmund.
“When the option to register for the BVB appeared, we didn’t want to think twice,” Reinier told the Dortmund club’s website. “The BVB has a reputation for being promising players. When this option came up, we knew it would be the right one.
“I need to grow as a player and be informed of new things. I would also like to continue my non-public progression and be informed in English and German. It’s for my long-term life. I need to win with the club, win titles if possible. and bring a lot of joy to the fans.”
The offensive midfielder, who can play in any position on the pitch as a striker, will become the eleventh Brazilian to play for Dortmund in the Bundesliga. He follows people like Marcio Amoroso, Tinga and Dede, who he says are big names among Brazilian enthusiasts at home.
Reinier also has a connection with Brazil with a player who has never adorned the Bundesliga: Kaká. The new boy from Dortmund has been to the former midfielder of AC Milan and Madrid for his elegance and passing ability, but Reinier plans to make a call for himself with Die Schwarzgelben.
“That [compared to Kaka] doesn’t push me,” Reinier said. “I need to show my football. Of course, it’s smart to be compared to a player like that. But I need to show what kind of football player I am.”
“Kaka is a player in which I would like to have my style. But I don’t need to be a Kaka at the moment; I need to be Reinier,” the teenager added. “I like to play fast, with short passes and two in two. I like my teammates, put them in smart shooting positions or check my luck myself.”
Reinier could make his competitive debut for Dortmund opposite MSV Duisburg in the first circular of the DFB Cup on 14 September.
The new Bundesliga season will begin with BVB Borussia Monchengladbach on 19 September in a successful adjustment on Saturday night of the 2020/21 season.
