Borussia Dortmund has eliminated head coach Nuri Sahin with the team out of the gates of the German Cup and fighting in the Bundesliga.
“Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season,” Sahin said. “I wish this special club all the best.”
The news occurs after Dortmund lost 2-1 in opposition to Bologna in the Champions League on Tuesday. Dortmund had still led to two objectives in two minutes to give up a fourth consecutive defeat for all competitions.
“We value Nuri Sahin and his work very much,” Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said. “We hoped for a long-term collaboration and until the end we had hoped that we could achieve a sporting turnaround together.
“After 4 consecutive losses, due to only one victory in the last nine games and there are in the tenth place at the Bundesliga table, unfortunately we have lost confidence in being able to achieve our sports goals in the existing constellation. This resolution hurts me Personally, but it is inevitable after the game in Bologna. “
Sahin, who was appointed in June as Edin Terzić’s replacement, was supposed to usher in a new era but the former Dortmund player’s reign has proved short-lived with the team 10th in the league and looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season.
His form of the Champions League proved to be a tonic for Sahin, however, the defeat on Tuesday in Bologna led to the control of the club to pass from the center of Saperer Real Madrid and the Liverpool midfielder.
Terzić had led Dortmund to an unlikely run in the Champions League Ultimate last season, where they were beaten 2-0 through Real Madrid, although the team’s league form was less impressive than scratching this year’s Champions League with a fifth-place finish.
