Borussia Dortmund sacked manager Nuri Sahin after their 2-1 defeat at Bologna.

The Tuesday Champions League defeats its fourth defeat directly and leaves them out of the posts to automatically qualify for the last 16.

Black and yellow had led in the game, but two fast fire goals at the time of Bologna in Bologna saw them go through defeat.

Dortmund are also languishing in 10th in the Bundesliga after winning only seven of their 18 league games this season.

“We appreciate Nuri Sahin and his work,” Dortmund’s sports director Lars Rickn.

“We expected a long-term collaboration and until the end, we hoped that we could achieve a sporting change together.

“After 4 consecutive losses, due to only one victory in the last nine games and in existence in the tenth place in the Bundesliga T, unfortunately we have lost confidence in achieving our sports goals in the existing constellation.

“This resolution hurts personally, but it is inevitable after the game in Bologna. “

Former midfielder Sahin was appointed last summer after the departure of Edin Terzic, who led them to the Champions League final in 2023-24.

The 36-year-old’s promotion from coaching duties was supposed to usher in a new era for the club but they currently look unlikely to finish in the Champions League spots.

One call to be in the frame to update Sahin is Erik Ten Hag, who may get his first assignment since he was sacked at Manchester United in November.

The 54-year-old revealed last week as running as a “shadow coach” under Sahin and attended their 3-2 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Ten Hag reportedly has a ‘very good’ relationship with Dortmund advisor and former captain Matthias Sammer.

It also has paintings delight in Germany with the Bayern Munich II while Pep Guardiola controlled the senior team.
