BORUSSIA DORTMUND were denied a goal at an unprecedented moment in their match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The Bundesliga giants led the match 2-1 at Borussia-Park as they looked to keep up speed with RB Leipzig in the Champions League places.
Dortmund won the game well by taking a 2-0 lead in 28 minutes thanks to a brace from Marcel Sabitzer.
Mönchengladbach found their back to score when Maximilian Wober scored in the 36th minute.
Sabitzer, a former Manchester United loanee, then felt he had to repair his side’s two-goal lead in the 51st minute.
Karim Adeyemi appeared to be brought down by Jonas Omlin when the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Sabitzer approached to take the penalty, but when he was about to kick the ball, the referee blew the whistle again.
When the ball hit the net, the players were subjected to a VAR check long overdue on the incident.
The decision was to disallow the penalty on the grounds that Omlin had won the ball fairly.
Fans were amazed by their reactions on social media.

One posted: “Sabitzer in the procedure of taking a penalty, changed the penalty but just as he was about to take it the referee stopped him and did a VAR check to CANCEL the penalty. Remarkable moment!”
A commented: “In the VAR call, what happens in the Bundesliga?”
A third wrote, “Game is over, honestly. “
A fourth said, “What a heartbreaker. “
A fifth was furious: “Since when can you do this?”
Another added: “Surely they can’t do that? The pen has already been called. “
To make matters worse, the resolution denied Sabitzer a hat-trick in the match.
Adeyemi was then sent off in the 55th minute for a second foul that could be booked.
However, Dortmund managed a narrow lead and took three points off them.
