Borussia Dortmund’s final result against Atletico Madrid, a result with Fullkrug and Sabitzer that propels BVB into the Champions League semi-finals

Borussia Dortmund reached the Champions League semi-finals after a thrilling 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid.

Dortmund struggled for long periods in the first leg but picked up where they left off and were well attended by the crowd at Signal Iduna Park.

Edin Terzic’s side took the lead that night when Mats Hummels sent a brilliant ball to Julian Brandt in the box. The German touched before getting the biggest from Jan Oblak, who deserved to have done more.

The Bundesliga club then took the lead on aggregate Ian Maatsen. Marcel Sabitzer returned the ball to Maatsen, who touched the ball before placing it beautifully in the back right corner.

However, Atleti were not going to give in without a fight. Mario Hermoso headed against the post and Hummels tried to clear but ended up putting the ball into his own net early in the second half.

Angel Correa had a wonderful chance to take the lead as he tried to slide a ball past Gregor Kobel, but it went inches wide. Diego Simeone fell to the ground, covering his face with his hands in disbelief.

Correa reversed his compatriot’s frown moments later. Antoine Griezmann’s shot from the left deflected the path of Correa, whose first shot on the rebound blocked the line but continued to smash it into the roof of the net.

Brandt then put Dortmund on the attack and played a ball down the left for Sabitzer to pass to Niclas Fullkrug, who headed into the far corner and hit the post. That left Simeone begging for calm on his part.

Those orders fell on deaf ears and Atleti conceded the goal that sealed Dortmund’s semi-final place. Sabitzer picked up the ball on the edge of the defence before touching the box and firing past Oblak. But the Austria international’s precision was too great for the Atleti goalkeeper to handle.

Simeone scratched his head at a festival in which one of the enduring presences of that era was once again eluding him.

Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic made a delayed physical check on Jadon Sancho, but the Manchester United loanee started the match. Sebastien Haller’s goal off the bench gave Dortmund a chance in the game in Madrid, but the former West Ham United striker ruled out with an ankle injury.
