The latest speculation in the English media this evening has suggested that Manchester City are on the verge of clinching the signing of Nathan Ake.
25-year-old stopper Ake came up through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge, before breaking into the first-team setup of Chelsea for the first time as a raw teen in 2012.
The years that followed saw the Dutchman farmed out on a series of loan spells, the last of which saw Ake join Bournemouth on a season-long deal in the summer of 2016.
The youngster’s impressive displays over the opening half of the campaign eventually resulted in Chelsea opting to recall Ake the following winter, but, after Bournemouth tabled a club-record £20 million bid to bring the defender back to the Vitality in the summer of 2017, those in charge at Stamford Bridge came to the decision to cash in.
And the seasons since have seen Ake go on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable stoppers.
The 13-time capped Dutch international featured in every one of Bournemouth’s 76 league fixtures over the last two campaigns, proving a rock at the back for Eddie Howe’s men.

And, despite some injury troubles this time around, Ake has still managed starts in 29 of his side’s 37 Premier League outings.
With Bournemouth on the verge of relegation back to the Championship, though, links between Ake and some of English football’s heavyweights have inevitably begun to circulate in the media of late.
Chief among these clubs have actually been the 25-year-old’s former side, Chelsea.
Another potential landing spot to have been persistently pushed by the media, though, is Manchester City.
The Citizens are widely expected to target reinforcements at centre-half this summer, on the back of an underwhelming campaign to this point.
And, if the latest speculation in England this evening is to be believed, then not only has Ake been targeted by the transfer chiefs at the Etihad, but the Dutchman in fact looks to be on the verge of a move to Manchester.
As per the Guardian:
‘Manchester City are close to agreeing a deal to sign Nathan Aké from Bournemouth.’
A deal in the region of £35 million is said to be in the works, with further developments imminent.
Interestingly, it is also hinted that Ake’s arrival at the Etihad could push John Stones towards the exit door, with Arsenal tipped as a possible destination.
English international Stones is of course well known to Mikel Arteta, following the Arsenal boss’ time working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City.
