MARCH 10 JAGS TRADED FOR JONES The Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to an industry deal with the New England Patriots that earned them quarterback Mac Jones, a former first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft (No. 15 overall). Jones will now serve as Trevor’s backup quarterback to Lawrence.
Jones played 3 seasons as the Patriots’ quarterback, completing 66. 1% of his passes for 8,918 yards and 46 touchdowns. He went 18-24 as the Patriots’ starter.
New England received a sixth-round pick in exchange for Jones; ESPN was the first to report it.
The Houston Texans are gearing up for a potentially large flex signing era in the coming days, with more than $60 million capped at their disposal.
One of the spaces where they would look to increase skill to the defensive front.
But now, one of their biggest potential targets is off the market, with Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones signing a massive five-year, $95 million contract with the Super Bowl champions.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter report, the deal is expected to provide the average salary ever recorded for an NFL defensive tackle.

Tragedy struck Wednesday afternoon when suspected gunmen opened fire at the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade in Kansas City.
As a result of the shooting, one user was found dead and 3 others are in critical condition.
Five other victims are also in serious condition, and a total of 10 to 15 were estimated to have been injured in the incident. Two suspects have been arrested and are in police custody.
After the shooting, former Houston Texan and current Chiefs defensive end Charles Omeninhu shared his thoughts and prayers with the victims and spoke about America’s gun laws.
“Prayers for those affected in today’s parade,” Omenihu said on X. “An era of birthday parties ends in tragedy. How many more people will have to die to say enough is enough?””It’s too easy for other people to get guns in America and that’s a FACT. “
Omenihu played for the Texans from 2019 to 2021, being traded to the 49ers in the 2021 season.
In March 2023, Omenihu signed a two-year contract with the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl LVIII champions, thanks in large part to the efforts of superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
After 4 quarters of play weren’t enough, the biggest game of the year went to overtime, with Mahomes leading a winning drive that culminated with a landing pass to Mecole Hardman, sealing the win.
Mahomes finished the game completing 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns, the game-winner.
The win is now the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl win and Mahomes gets the third ring of his career.
Jan. 20 PERRYMAN INJURED Shortly after the loss of Steven Nelson, who is lately being evaluated for a concussion, the Houston Texans would have possibly lost a key player in their defense against the Baltimore Ravens.
Early in the fourth quarter, linebacker Denzel Perryman struggled after trying to take on Lamar Jackson.
Perryman remained on the court for a few moments before being taken to the bench to be attended to by the team’s medical staff.
Heading into the playoffs, Perryman is fourth on the team in tackles with 76.
We’ll update Perryman’s as more data becomes available.
JANUARY 15 The Houston Texans will face the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon in the AFC Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.
And with the game now confirmed, the early odds have been released, with the Texans being 9. 5 points underdogs than the home Ravens.
This will be the time the Texans travel to Baltimore to face Lamar Jackson and Co. , squandering their last game 25-9 in the first week of the regular season.
The Texans, however, are a very different team than they were in September and are one of the NFL’s groups.
JANUARY 13 TEXANS are in control The Houston Texans are firmly ahead of the Cleveland Browns in Saturday’s Wild Card Game at NRG Stadium.
After taking a two-point lead in the first half of the game, the Texans threw in the third quarter, with cornerback Steven Nelson intercepting a pass from Joe Flacco and going back 82 yards for a touchdown.
The score gave the Texans a three-point lead 31-14 with 6:05 left in the third quarter. Nelson’s interception was his fifth of the season and the 14th of his nine-year career.
However, the Texans’ had not yet arrived.
On the next drive, it was Christian Harris’ turn to get into the end zone, intercept Flacco and bring him back for his own touchdown.
It was Harris’ second interception and first defensive landing in his two-year career.
Jan. 11 DEFENSIVE END BACK GREENARD Jonathan Greenard returned to practice Thursday morning at Houston Methodist Training Center. A Level 1 ankle sprain sidelined Greenard for the final two games of the regular season. He was injured in the Texans’ Week 16 loss to the Cleveland Browns. In 15 games, Greenard led the team in sacks with a career-high 12. 5.
JANUARY 9 Vrabel fired Another NFL head coach has been fired after a poor season, this time in the Texans’ own division.
On Tuesday, the Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Vrabel after going 6-11 and squandering 4 of his last six games at the helm. Vrabell spent six years as coach of the Titans.
During his time in Tennessee, Vrabel went 54-45, winning back-to-back departmental titles in 2020 and 2021, with a record of 11-5 and 12-5 in those seasons respectively. He also led the Titans to the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons.
However, in 2022 and 2023, the Texans took a first step backwards, going 7-10 and 6-11 in the two seasons, and missed the playoffs in both cases.
Vrabel’s firing will also likely cause the Titans to review and request an interview with Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who is one of the NFL’s most high-profile young coaching candidates.
Slowik has already been approached for interviews through several teams, the Commanders and the Panthers.
Houston Texans defensive end Jerry Hughes left Saturday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts midway through the third quarter with a glaring lower body injury.
Hughes’ injury led to a 14-14 tie in a win-win game between Houston and Indy, and he was betting on the position of the already injured Jonathan Greenard here in Week 18.
DECEMBER 31 After suffering a batting injury since his last game against the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis was injured once again, this time at NRG Stadium.
Lévis was taken to the dressing room with an obvious foot injury and will not return. Levis missed last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury.
The injury occurred on Jerry Hughes’ catch of Lévis that led to a touchdown by Sheldon Rankins.
Ryan Tannehill, who last week faced the Seahawks at Levis’ position, repositioned the rookie in the lineup.
Last week against Seattle, Tannehill threw 18 of 26 passes for 152 yards and two carries for 37 yards.
The Houston Texans dealt a blow to their best school heading into the final game of the regular season.
According to a team announcement, veteran guard Jimmie Ward has been placed on injured reserve, leaving a major void in the team’s pass defense.
The Texans preempted that resolution last Wednesday by claiming former first-round pick Kareem Jackson off waivers from the Denver Broncos. But at 35, Jackson probably wouldn’t be enough to fill the void left by Ward on the court.
Ward has been plagued by injuries in the second part of the season and will finish his first year in Houston with 50 tackles and one interception.
DECEMBER 14 The Houston Texans have lost a key defensive back due to injury over an extended period of time.
This time it’s cornerback Tavierre Thomas, who was transferred to injured reserve Sunday morning with a hamstring injury.
Thomas was injured in the team’s 30-6 loss to the New York Jets last week and was expected to miss a week or two in the first place. However, the injury turned out to be more problematic than expected, leading to IR. designation.
Thomas’ loss leaves the Texans, who were already short on personnel Sunday, with a big hole in their secondary for their playoff run down the stretch.
Thomas has played a key role in the Texans’ defense this season, making 30 tackles with two forced fumbles.
Houston Texans quarterback C. J. Stroud likely won’t play Sunday against the Titans after suffering a concussion against the Jets in Week 14.
And now, it looks like Titans rookie quarterback Will Levis probably won’t be 100 percent when Houston travels to Nashville either.
According to the Titans’ injury report on Wednesday, Levis was listed as a “limited” player in practice due to an ankle injury.
That said, he sported the same designation last Wednesday, before being a full-fledged player for the rest of the week.
Levis then had a game against the Dolphins on Sunday, leading the Titans to a fantastic comeback after two touchdowns to disappoint Miami 28-27.
Houston Texans quarterback C. J. Stroud left the game with an injury in the fourth quarter against the New York Jets after hitting his head on the New Jersey turf.
And after (a disappointing 30-6 loss for playoff-connoisseur Texans), coach DeMeco Ryans announced that Stroud would enter concussion protocol and spend the week under evaluation.
At one point, Stroud was able to sit down and leave the box alone, and made his way to the tent of the marginalized wounded. . . All this after hitting his head in a terrifying way.
After being assessed in the wounded tent, Stroud left the box and headed to the locker room.
Stroud has been remarkable for the Texans in 2023 and is one of the most sensible contenders for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. With the Texans falling to 7-6, their physical condition is a critical factor for the team’s playoff run.
DEC. 10 After being injured Sunday against the New York Jets, Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (calf) and linebacker Blake Cashman (hamstring) were out for the rest of the game.
DECEMBER 10 COLINS OUT? The Houston Texans could have lost the key point guard in their offense.
In the first half of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, wide receiver Nico Collins was forced to leave the game due to what appeared to be a lower-body injury.
Collins eventually made it to the medical store for further evaluation, where we decided he had suffered a calf injury.
He has now been named a recurring suspect.
DECEMBER 7 Beaten and bruised? The Houston Texans are coming off a hard-fought win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
And if Wednesday’s injury report is any indication, the win took a physical toll on the players, with several key players sitting out for that day.
George Fant, Neville Hewitt, Laremy Tunsil, Jimmie Ward and Robert Woods were indexed as Texans DNPs.
However, several Texans were also indexed as “limited,” Dalton Schultz, Sheldon Rankins, Noah Broan, and Will Anderson Jr.
That said, if last week is any indication, Wednesday appears to be a lighter day for some veterans, as many of the same players held DNP or limited designations last week, before becoming full-fledged participants the next day, Tunsil added. . , Ward and Fant.
DEC According to Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, Houston rookie wide receiver Tank Dell underwent season-ending ankle surgery on Monday.
Dell fractured his fibula in the first quarter while trying to block the Texans’ close win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Arguably one of the NFL’s rookie receivers, Dell has 47 catches for 709 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Dell was the Rams’ No. 2 star, Puka Nacua, in receiving yards for the rookie in 2023 and averaged 64. 5 yards per game as C. J. ‘s favorite target. Stroud.
DECEMBER 3 The Houston Texans arguably would have suffered a devastating loss on Sunday afternoon, with rookie star catcher Tank Dell being transported to the locker room after what appears to be a lower-body injury.
The injury occurred while Dell was trying to block a touchdown by Dameon Pierce.
Dell has been a star for the Texans this season, throwing for 709 yards and seven touchdowns on receptions.
The Texans announced Friday afternoon that rookie catcher Tank Dell is questionable for Sunday’s Week Thirteen game against the Denver Broncos. Dell missed Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury but was limited Thursday and Friday. In 10 games, Dell threw 47 passes for 709 yards and seven touchdowns.
In addition to Dell, Texans tight end Dalton Schultz has a hamstring injury.
The Houston Texans claimed veteran point guard Derek Barnett off waivers on Monday, adding a valuable piece to their defensive line.
To make that move, however, the Texans had to create roster space. In doing so, the Texans would have given up kicker Matt Ammendola.
Ammendola missed the tying basket against the Jaguars on Sunday, causing the Texans to suffer a disappointing loss.
Without Ammendola on the roster, the Texans don’t have a kicker, at least right now, for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.
And with Kai’mi Fairbairn still on the injured list for at least two more weeks, the Texans will most likely bring Ammendola back to the practice squad and get him back just before Sunday.
NOV. 26 HOWARD DOWN The Houston Texans arguably would have suffered a significant loss along the offensive line.
This time, that loss came via left guard Tytus Howard, who was removed from the game due to what appeared to be a left knee injury in the first quarter.
Howard was able to get out of the box under his own power, but he limped considerably.
Howard was then transported to the Texans’ locker room via medical staff for further evaluation.
Howard missed the start of the season after being placed on injured reserve with a hand injury sustained in educational camp.
NOV. 22 HORTON ONE STEP AWAY Texas rookie Dylan Horton announced on social media that he will retire from the team due to a non-public fitness issue. He was one of several non-participants in the practice at the Houston Methodist Training Center Wednesday morning.
Horton, a fourth-round pick in 2023 (109th overall), appeared in 10 games with the Texans, recording thirteen tackles and two quarterback hits.
NOV. 19 With less than a minute remaining in the first half of Sunday’s game between the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals, rookie quarterback C. J. Stroud felt the strain of the opposing defense.
His response? Well, Tank Dell is somewhere on the ground, so let’s rule it out and give it a chance. Dell took advantage of the opportunity to earn a wild homecoming to extend Houston’s lead to 21-10.
You can check out the piece below.
The landing pass marks Stroud’s time of day, and he also has an interception to his name. You can follow the game’s updates here.
Former Houston Texans quarterback and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season with an injury, he announced Wednesday.
Watson underwent an MRI on Monday that separated two injuries, plus a fractured released shoulder.
“Deshaun Watson underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) surgery on Monday following two injuries sustained on other plays in the first half of Sunday’s 33-31 win over the Baltimore Ravens,” the Browns said in a statement. “Imaging of his left ankle revealed a sprain at the top of his ankle. In addition, after the game, Deshaun informed our medical staff of a new discomfort in his right shoulder that he had felt after a knock in the first half.
“An MRI of his right shoulder revealed a displaced fracture of the glenoid cavity. Despite high-level functionality and the end of the game, after consulting with Browns Medical Director James Voos, MD and shoulder specialist Neal ElAttrache, MD, we have decided that this injury will require immediate surgical repair to prevent further structural damage. Deshaun will be placed on end-of-season injured reserve and is expected to make a full recovery at the start of the 2024 season.
The former Texan will be replaced by P. J. Walker, who has already played 3 games in Watson’s absence this season.
The Houston Texans have signed Matt Ammendola to update the injured Ka’imi Fairbairn, who was added to injured reserve over the weekend.
And on Sunday, that signing paid off immediately, with Ammedola scoring the game-winning basket late in timeout to finish Houston above the Array500 for the first time since 2019.
Ammendola finished the day with a 3-3 draw and scored all 3 of his points in the win.
NOV. 8 CJ TOP 10 Houston Texans rookie CJ Stroud has gotten off to an undeniably glorious start, culminating in his standout paints in a Week 9 win over Tampa Bay in which he threw a rookie-record 470 yards and five touchdowns.
So does that put him “among the 10 most sensible quarterbacks in the NFL”?
That’s the statement of our friends at Clutchpoints, and while it’s an exciting idea, one wonders if we shouldn’t slow down a bit.
Oh, and while we’re at it, we’re going to do the same with Yahoo Sports’ claim that Stroud is “in the conversation” for NFL MVP.
In the first nine weeks of the season, Stroud completed 62% of his passes for 2,270 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception. He also totaled 78 yards and a touchdown. And his team is 4-4. . . a scream from predictions that Houston would be back in the basement of the NFL.
But “top 10”? We don’t care because we consider such lists to be subjective, malleable, and even arbitrary.
And “MVP candidate”? That doesn’t happen to recruits. It also doesn’t pass teams that are out of the playoffs.
Stroud replaces this first fact. Now, what happens if the Texans make the playoffs?Perhaps it will at least get some well-deserved attention in relation to this fact of the moment.
How about the “overwhelming Rookie of the Year award winner”?Will it be enough?
AUG. 29 The Houston Texans announced discounts ahead of Tuesday’s 3 p. m. deadline. CT, led by defensive end Chase Winovich, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson.
The other Texans released are rookie wide receiver Jared Wayne and defensive end Ali Gaye with plans to sign them to the team if they get waivers, according to Wilson.
Houston also released running back Larry Rountree III, receivers Steven Sims Jr. and Jalen Camp, cornerback D’Angelo Ross, tight end Eric Tomlinson and defensive tackles Thomas Booker, Byron Cowart and Khalil Davis.
AUGUST 29 The first of many deadlines has been set.
The Houston Texans are losing cornerback Jacobi Francis, who signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson. Last season, Francis moved between the active and practice rosters 3 times before being named to Houston’s active team for the final 4 games of the season.
Despite being on the active roster for seven games, Francis has noticed the box in five where he recorded an inning.
The move follows Texans first-team All-Pro cornerback from Monday 2018, Desmond King II.
AUGUST 28 Shortly after parting ways with former captain Christian Kirksey on Monday, the Texans made an unexpected cut to their final roster, releasing former first-team All-Pro cornerback Desmond King.
King joined the Texans in 2021 after a stint with the Titans. Prior to that, King spent 3 years with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he had his peak productive era as a professional.
In two seasons with the Texans, King played 33 games, started 25 and had 182 tackles, 14 passes defensed and five interceptions.
AUGUST 28 The Houston Texans have waived five players ahead of the final 53-player relay on Tuesday at the 3 p. m. TB deadline.
Linebacker Christian Kirksey is in charge of the line Monday and has been cut, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Kirksey, who captained the Texans last season, finished third on Houston’s defense with 124 tackles last season. Kirksey also had seven tackles for loss and hit the quarterback seven times with 3 sacks and two interceptions to start the 17 games.
Kirksey named Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2022.
Offensive version of Rashaad Coward and offensive lineman Tyler Beach were also released Monday, according to KPRC’s Aaron Wilson.
Coward signed via the Texans on Aug. 8 after spending five seasons: 3 with the Chicago Bears and one with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.
Beach, an undrafted free agent who left Wisconsin.
Houston also gave up defensive back Darius Joiner and tight end Mason Schreck, according to Wilson.
Schreck had two catches for 17 yards against the New England Patriots in the Texans’ preseason opener. In three games with Houston in 2022, he made one and two passes for six yards.
Joiner signed on Wednesday and the Duke Blue Devils rookie recorded a matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
