SAN DIEGO (AP) – Alex Barcello scored 22 points and Brandon Averette hit a huge triple with 51 seconds to play for BYU, which took a 17-point lead before beating San Diego State No. 18 despite the 35 highest numbers in Matt Mitchell’s career.
Mitchell stood out by scoring 26 points in the middle of the moment: he converted a 14-0 race with three triples, then got a scouse loan and a volcada that tied him at 61.
But BYU (7-2) recovered and passed to San Diego State (5-1) his first defeat. The Aztecs won their first 26 games last season and were the last undefeated team in the country in the direction of a 30-2 record.
Matt Haarms and Averette scored 10 numbers each.
Jordan Schakel had three out of nine problems after scoring 25 issues, a career high in the 80-68 San Diego State win over Arizona State on December 10.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (AP) – Jaden Springer scored 21 points to lead Tennessee over Tennessee Tech.
The 6-foot-4-inch rookie also had six rebounds and six assists and one of six volunteers (4-0) with double digits. Josiah-Jordan James and Victor Bailey Jr. each had 15 problems, John Fulkerson had thirteen problems and six rebounds, Keon Johnson scored thirteen problems and Yves Pons had 10 problems and two blocks.
The Golden Eagles (0-8) led Jr. Clay with thirteen points, while Keishawn Davidson added 12 points.
