Cal then made the news official, with coach Justin Wilcox’s comment, “Drew will have the opportunity for us, either on offense and in special teams, and will fit perfectly academically and socially with Cal.”
It will also take on the role of teammate. We are pleased to have you on board. \ “
Schlegel played all thirteen games last season for the Wildcats, most commonly on special teams. He put in a 12-yard pass and had two short kick-off returns.
He played 11 games at the time of 2018 and awarded the prestige of the SEC’s Fall Academic Honor Roll in both seasons. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance last spring.
Schlegel also played a tight finish for Kentucky, but was used as a blocker from the baseline position in a team that occupied fourth place nationwide in yard yards consistent with the game and has an 18-8 record in the more than two years.
Musgrave, hired in the off-season via Wilcox to upgrade Beau as offensive coordinator, brings an NFL orientation to Cal and intends to use a fullback in some sets.
Here are some highlights of Schlegel’s game action in Kentucky, basically like a lock on the rear or rear H position:
The Bears transferred sophomore Zach Angelillo to the back in the spring before the practice was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic after only 4 practices.
Schlegel is the moment when graduates move to join the Bears this low season, following the arrival of Wisconsin offensive lineman Bradrack Shaw.
At Parker’s Regis Jesuit High, Schlegel had 115 tackles, three interceptions and five catches as a senior. He also led his best school team to the Colorado State Rugby Championship.
Schlegel, whose father has a defensive attitude and is the team captain in Kentucky, said on the school’s online page that his ambitions were to play for the XFL St. Louis BattleHawks and be an alpacas farmer.
