New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would call a beginner quarterback for Monday’s game against the Denver Broncos at a conference call with reporters Saturday morning.
Belichick said he doesn’t expect Quarterback Cam Newton or cornerer Stephon Gilmore, either on the reserve list/COVID, to train Saturday at the Patriots’ first consultation of the week.
Belichick has made it clear that things are moving with his football team right now by repeating the words “day by day” and “hour by hour. “
Belichick made an appointment when asked if Newton would start if he was eligible until Monday.
“I don’t understand a lot of assumptions,” Belichick said. “I just told you. We take it day by day, hour by hour. “
Belichick would also respond if he expects Newton or Gilmore to be eligible to play until Monday.

The Patriots started Brian Hoyer as quarterback on Monday opposite the Chiefs after Newton tested positive for COVID last Friday. Hoyer went to the bench in the middle of the third quarter and Jarrett Stidham entered the game.
