Yesterday Carlo Ancelotti said James Rodriguez would injure Everton’s holiday against Southampton on Sunday.
Everton’s officer has announced he’s offside on the South Coast.
But as they say, 24 hours is a long time and now the landscape has changed.
Ancelotti had a much more positive outlook (Friday) after seeing the Colombian train, and said he could be in the fight for the weekend.
“He’s definitely not out,” Ancelotti said of Rodriguez, according to Everton’s official Twitter account. “Fortunately, his recovery was good.
“He worked out today, only a partial training. I hope you exercise and we’ll see if it has compatibility to play on Sunday.
“It’s bigger now and we’re convinced that maybe I can play.
It’s a radical change and if Rodriguez is fit, it would reinforce Ancelotti’s hopes of winning over the weekend.
Rodriguez has galvanized the club since his arrival, as Bruno Fernandes did at Manchester United.
With Richarlison already suspended, converting to both ends and wasting two-thirds of his 3 frantic strikers would have been a blow to Ancelotti.
Even if it has compatibility for a cameo at the bank, it would give Southampton a cause for concern.
It is rare for a player to be discarded and reinstated, but it is what many Everton enthusiasts will complain about.
