Carlos Carvalhal says that his son is his hero, he and José Carlos were already close, after that night the bond is even closer.
That night, in July, after returning home from an attack with Rio Ave in Madeira, Carvalhal attacked when he was pulled out of his car through masked men, one of them brandishing a knife.
Gamely, 54, Carvalhal fought with two on the ground. Climbing the gravel road, cutting off his arms and legs, he screamed when the 3rd approached menacingly with the knife. His 23-year-old son, Joseph, ran to his aid and threw stones at the men.

The 54-year-old spoke candidly about his terrifying delight with his son in July.
“Their intervention is crucial,” Carvalhal says, “surprised them and they ran when he threw the stones at them. Fighting very well with the two boys, they didn’t cause me too much unrest even though I saw that the 3rd had an Array knife. . He had screamed for help and Joseph came, Fortunately, we controlled to enter space and the police arrived within minutes.
“Joseph, my hero. We were close before but, as we passed together, a special bond was created. “
Such a risk to the protection of former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City manager and his circle of relatives led Carvalhal to intensify security at home.
