Carson Wentz is expected to apply for a postseason trade, according to a report by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Mortensen, in a segment of ESPN’s “NFL Countdown,” said Wentz’s relationship with the Eagles “is nearly fractured. In fact, it’s fractured. “
Mortensen later posted an article on ESPN’s online page saying Wentz’s relationship with head coach Doug Pederson “was hopelessly severed, according to league sources. “
Pederson said as recently as Friday that the purpose of the offseason is to “fix” Wentz, who has been through the worst season of his career. Wentz went to the bench at the time of the Eagles’ game opposite Green Bay on Dec. 6 and has not played since.
“I have a lot of confidence in Carson Wentz and I have it,” Pederson said. “Our offseason will be geared toward resolving disruptions as quarterbacks and, of course, as a team. “

Mortensen went on to say that Wentz would be in a position to facilitate an industry. That likely means reshaping his contract to make it more appropriate for the Eagles to submit him to the industry.
Yet even if he did, the Eagles would still be on the table for a pile of dead cash of $ 34 million at his 2021 salary cap. This makes Wentz very difficult to trade. That’s because the Eagles are expected to exceed the salary cap of around $ 70 if Wentz plays for them next season.
The Eagles don’t need to take that kind of burden to see Wentz thrive elsewhere. The highest existing cash dead rate taken through an NFL team is $ 21 million.
Wentz has a low career finishing touch percentage of 57. 4% and a passer score of 72. 8, also among the worst scores in the NFL. Wentz had thrown a career-high 15 interceptions heading into Week 17, which is still tied for the NFL lead, and sacked a league-record 50 times.
Rookie Jalen Hurts replaced Wentz from the Green Bay game. The two are expected to compete for the task during the offseason.
The Eagles close out their season Sunday night against Washington, but Wentz would be on the roster on game day. Nate Sudfeld will update it as Hurts update.
This resolution makes sense whether the Eagles stay Wentz or not. After all, a negligible game injury might not actually contribute to your business value, let alone being in a position to compete for the job.
“The reaction of Jeffrey Lurie, the owner, will be vital,” Mortensen said. “But for now, Wentz obviously needs to leave Philadelphia and start from scratch somewhere else. It’s going to be a great story in the offseason. “
