Cataldi’s long history at Lazio is in doubt as the gap widens

Danilo Cataldi’s long career at Lazio is shrouded in doubt following his sadness at the decision to name Mattia Zaccagni as his new captain.

The 29-year-old Italian midfielder was bitterly disappointed not to receive the captain’s armband following Ciro Immobile’s move to Besiktas earlier this month, believing he deserved the honour due to his long links with the club and his progression through its youth system.

Some Lazio players expected Zaccagni to reject the honor to allow Cataldi to take the armband, a scenario that forced president Claudio Lotito to intervene, necessarily telling the midfielder to calm down and proArray.

As reported by Il Messaggero (via Lazio Siamo Noi), Cataldi’s long run with Lazio is on the line after the latest breakup and the club will struggle if he remains in the capital for the 2024-25 season.

It was launched this month and presented in Turin and Cagliari without being told, which caused even more tension. The 29-year-old has no intention of leaving the Biancocelesti unless he is sent off.
