The CCA will allow fall sports, adding football, to begin the festival the week of September 7 “if public fitness forums allow it” and publish Notre Dame’s independence as a full member of the 2020 football season, the convention announced Wednesday.

CAC becomes the third Power Five convention to announce adjustments to the fall athletics program in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this month, Big Ten and Pac-12 canceled all football games outside the convention to allow for greater plan flexibility and potentially streamline testing and touch search protocols.
Unlike Big Ten and Pac-12, the ACC will allow a non-conference game, as well as 10 games opposed to a league competition. The games will be played during a 13-week season with two dates open. Notre Dame, who is a member of the ACC in non-football sports, will play a 10-game league schedule, giving 15 members to the ACC, and will be eligible for the convention championship game.
