VAR stands out again when Celtic beat Kilmarnock.
The Ayrshire side headed to east Glasgow full of hope after beating Brendan Rodgers’ side last season, but that wasn’t the case for the Rugby Park men, as Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and Greg Taylor scored Celtic’s goals.
David Watson had hit back at Killie to make it 2-1, but it wasn’t enough for the visitors.
And another afternoon, VAR under the microscope as Celtic’s second goal gave the impression of being offside despite a VAR check indicating that Palma’s goal was valid.
Kyogo put the ball into the back of the net after only five minutes, but the striker’s goal was disallowed for offside.
Taylor, Killie’s former favourite, closed with a volley in the 18th minute, luckily for Will Dennis, it flew just over the crossbar.
It was all too straightforward for the champions a few minutes later, when Hatate beat Killie’s midfield to calmly shoot past a helpless Dennis and give his team the lead.
Palma took advantage of a comfortable pass from Joe Wright to exchange a wall with Hatate, who appeared to be offside despite VAR control, before firing a shot from 20 yards near the post 10 minutes before the break. time.
Firstly, Celtic received a penalty against Watson, but VAR intervened to ensure the shot was not conceded.
Kyogo had a great game just after the hour, but their first attempt bounced off the post before bouncing into the stands.
Great paintings from Killie captain Kyle Vassell hit Watson into the net and the young midfielder shot home with a compound shot to set one away for the visitors.
But he played, established and conceded in the 83rd minute when Taylor scored at the second post while Daizen Maeda ran towards the goal from a corner.
Vassell had a great moment in the final minutes when he took advantage of a Watson cross, but a slight block from a defender caused the striker to shoot.
