CELTIC on Saturday condemned the demonstration of a pro-Palestinian banner through the Green Brigade.
Banners held in the northeast corner of the box were accompanied by the Palestinian flag and read: “Free Palestine” and “Victory for the Resistance!”
They opposed Kilmarnock, just hours after the Hamas militant organization launched an unprecedented surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday.
This prompted retaliatory airstrikes over the weekend and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared “we are at war. “
It is estimated that more than 1,000 people have lost their lives since the last escalation of the weekend clash.
Many fled the horrific scenes, former Aberdeen defender Clark Robertson and former Celtic striker Robbie Keane, who controlled Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Former Hoops midfielder Nir Bitton, an Israeli, lashed out at the organisation of “brainwashed” fans at his former club on Instagram, and the club has now distanced itself from the message.
The Hoops said politicians are not welcome at Celtic Park.
It said: “The banners displayed in a segment of Celtic Park ahead of Saturday’s match constitute Celtic Football Club’s prospects and we dissociate ourselves from them.
“We condemn such messages at Celtic Park.
“Celtic is a football club and a political organisation.
“One of our core values since our inception has been to be open to all, regardless of race, color, politics or creed.
“That is why the Club has made it clear that political messages and banners are not welcome at Celtic Park, nor at any match involving Celtic.
“At a time of loss and suffering for many, it is beside the point that any American organisation would use Celtic Park as a vehicle to spread such messages.
“We call on all fans, regardless of their private opinions, to join our players and the Club respecting the rights and ideals of others, especially those whose lives are affected by violence and hatred. “
The Celts have shown their support for Palestine at various events abroad with banners and flags.
Former midfielder Bitton spent nine years at Parkhead but responded with a burst of excitement after seeing banners of his former team’s 3-1 victory.
Writing on Instagram, he said: “Shame on you!!
“Yes, liberate Gaza from Hamas, from Israel! Supporting a terrorist organization that proudly celebrates the slaughter of families is surely insane. Shameful.
“Most of you don’t even know where Israel is!They have no idea about this crash and act as if they know everything.
“As a father of three, I need to see how you react when your innocent children are massacred and kidnapped in front of your eyes! And please don’t tell me that’s what Israel is doing with the Palestinians because that’s far from the case. . true!!
“Stop being brainwashed and prejudiced and tell it with facts!!”
He then responded to the replies to his outburst and said, “Guys, calm down!So much hatred towards me, it’s smart to know that they’ve kept it inside for nine years. “
“And by the way, I’ve never been silent, I’ve supported Israel.
“The fact is, we’ve never lived a day like before.
“We can deal with rockets on us, unfortunately this is part of the daily routine of our young people, but for many terrorists to come to Israel and bathe entire families, children and old people in blood, march on them, kidnap them and celebrate as monsters, this is a red line that we must not accept, no matter where you come from. “
Current Hoops winger Liel Abada, Israel’s foreign supplier for the club, also posted on the social media site.
He sent 3 emojis with his national flag, a center and hands in prayer position.
