Kasper Schmeichel has signed a one-year deal with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Sky Sports News reported last week that the former Leicester goalkeeper had agreed terms to sign up for the Hoops, following the end of his brief spell at Belgian club Anderlecht in the summer.
The 37-year-old, who represented Denmark at Euro 2024, is hoping to update Joe Hart as Celtic’s new No. 1, following Hart’s retirement at the end of last season.
Schmeichel’s move will see him reunite with boss Brendan Rodgers, with the two racing together for the first time in Leicester City.
He said: “I’m surely very happy to be joining Celtic and can’t wait to get started. Celtic are one of the real football clubs in the world, a massive draw and a position of real fandom and success. Celtic is what the football. is.
“I also know Brendan very well. He is a very sensible manager and I look forward to applying again.
“I’m looking forward to meeting the guys in United States and starting our work and then of course meeting our enthusiasts who bring so much to Celtic.
“I will do everything I can to keep Celtic in the most sensible shape and bring more and more good luck to those brilliant fans. “
Celtic manager Rodgers added: “I’m pleased to bring Kasper to Celtic. He is a goalkeeper of authentic quality and someone with the skill and personality to be wonderful for us.
“He’s a guy I accept as loyal to and someone who knows how to win. He lives for football and comes to a club where he will feel the same love for the game as he does.
“I know he will feel at home at Celtic and we look forward to racing with him as we all aspire to achieve greater success. “
Celtic’s first four league games at the start of their Premiership defence are broadcast live on Sky Sports, starting with their home game against Kilmarnock on 4 August.
Celtic signed goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo from Aston Villa for a fee of around £1 million.
It is understood that Rodgers Schmeichel will be the mentor of the Finnish foreigner who was on loan at Exeter City last season.
Speaking to Celtic TV, the 22-year-old said: “I know Celtic are a big football club and it’s exciting to be part of something so big. It’s incredible. “
