Frank McAvennie says Kristoffer Ajer can shine if he trades Celtic for Newcastle this summer.
Celtic’s icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacting to the latest news about Ajer’s future.
According to the Daily Mail, magpies are an 8 million pound movement for the 23-year-old before the move-in window opens.
Ajer has only 12 months left on his contract with the Hoops and the club will most likely make money this summer if he agrees to sign a new contract.
This means newcastle has between 8 and 10 million pounds to spend on new players this summer.
Ajer made 31 Premiership appearances for Celtic in a disastrous 2020/21 campaign.
However, McAvennie says that six-foot- and four-inch Ajer can shine in St James Park and Steve Bruce plays him as a midfielder.
“That may be what he needs,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If there’s a profit, it’ll sell. He needs to himself, he needs to go.
“Good with him. I think he’ll do a lot more to protect in Newcastle than celtic.
I’m not sure he’s the man from Newcastle. They want someone to get up and be counted.
“Honestly, I think he’s a midfielder. He’s glorious with the ball. It goes through the players as if they were there.
“Steve Bruce doesn’t have much hair but is going to take what she has left if Ajer defends.
“I need you to faint and ask me. I need it to shine. Playing in the Premier League is different, he could enjoy it. “
In other news, Celtic has been asked to re-sign one of its players from the last 10 years in what would be a sensational move.
