Celtic have officially appointed Elena Sadiku as their new Celtic FC Women manager. She replaces Fran Alonso, who left the Hoops to serve as head coach of the Houston Dash.
Elena’s last leadership role was as head coach of Everton’s Women’s Super League academy. However, she has reveled in all levels of professional football in other countries, managing groups such as FC Rosengard and Fortuna Hjorring.
He has also revelled on the pitch, playing for FC Rosengard, Kristianstad DFF, Eskilstuna United, Hammarby IF and even representing his home Sweden on several occasions. She retired from professional football at the age of 23 due to a recurring injury, but that didn’t stop her determination to progress in women’s football.
Speaking to Celtic TV about signing up for the Hoops, Elena said: “It’s a wonderful day for me and my family to sign up for a club of Celtic’s prestige and stature at such an exciting time for our women’s team. It’s a real honor. ” I have this glorious opportunity and I can’t wait to get started, especially with so many vital games to come.
“The Scottish league has grown in recent years and I’ve noticed that the Celtic team has been very lucky. My role now is to continue on this path, running for and with the players to achieve wonderful good luck in the league and in particular, European competitions.
“I have also enjoyed the opportunity to definitely expand and expand the design and wider environment across all our groups and academy. I will bring passion, power and determination to this role and I can’t wait to get started. “
What a truly fantastic appointment this is. Our academy was always going to be a big part of growing our team, especially with the Barrowfield redevelopment, and what better person to take us forward in that regard than Elena.
Michael Nicholson, Celtic’s chief executive, also spoke to Celtic TV about the new appointment as Celtic FC manager. He said: “Everyone at the club is very happy to welcome Elena to Celtic. After an exhaustive process, Elena has been known as a remarkable person. appointment and that she has the delight and profile to perform well on the pitch for Celtic and also oversee our wider progression as we try to move our women’s team forward.
“Elena has worked across Europe and beyond in a variety of roles and in other settings and we are confident that Celtic will take advantage of those experiences. This will come in handy as we integrate the women’s groups into the wider Celtic Academy and prepare for the transition. to our new educational complex later this year.
“We look forward to working together to build on what has been achieved in recent years. “
Elena Sadiku will need to make her mark on Celtic’s game and also on the squad and will be well aware that the existing squad lacks numbers and is supported by many academy players who may not yet be in a position to be reliable performers next week. and week off.
She should be well aware of the budget gap with the current league leaders theRangers spending more than twice as much as Celtic. This incidentally is pennies compared to the mens game. Celtic narrowly missed out on the SWPL1 title last season but retained the Scottish Cup.
This time we are in with a shout in all three competitions but to be realistic, we’re going to need several signings in January and that is exactly what Fran Alonso was looking at before he got the offer from the States. Hopefully the club back the new boss in this window and her per get off to a brilliant start as the Celtic FC Women manager.
Elena’s first game in charge of Celtic will be against Montrose this Sunday, so get down to the Excelsior and back the new boss! Tickets are available to buy online, and the match will be broadcast on BBC Sport Scotland.
Next Friday has a tougher and more exciting tie for the fans, as Elena will contest her first Glasgow derby in the semi-finals of the Sky Sports League Cup. To start their time in Scotland with two wins, adding one against us. rivals, it would thrill enthusiasts!
