As Celtic temporarily approach the summer moving window, Brendan Rodgers is expected to take some action.
The Celtic manager will add players to his squad and eliminate those who do not contribute to the salary bill in order to reinvest that money in the Hoops’ first team.
Rodgers rushed to finish the loan players in January and those players will most likely be traded at the end of this season. Well, with the exception of Bosun Lawal.
Hyeokkyu Kwon is enjoying life at St Mirren and Mikey Johnston is enjoying the era of his career at West Brom in the English Championship.
Six goals and a handball have made Johnston the hot topic of verbal exchange in the south and although his Celtic career has come to an end, it has been claimed that Johnston has plenty of suitors in England after his meteoric impact in the West Midlands.
Journalist Chris Dunlavy claimed in The Football League Paper [print edition page 10] on March 24 that Celtic were looking to sell Johnston, but that West Brom would not only be interested in the winger.
Dunlavy said: “Celtic, with their hands burned by Johnston’s medical history, would prefer to cash in while their stock is high. What they ask for will depend a lot on who is interested.
“But if Johnston maintains his current form until the end of the season and, above all, emerges unscathed, West Brom won’t be the only club chasing him. “
West Brom are sixth in the league, just nine numbers off the play-off places. If the Republic of Ireland winger helps them get into the Premier League, he will most likely stay at the club beyond the summer.
However, with the amount of money circulating around England’s second tier, it deserves Johnston to have to move on, many clubs in this league could simply pay the mandatory fees to remove him from Celtic’s books for good.
Although wasting Johnston may not matter to Celtic fans, everyone will wish him well as he looks to revive his career away from the Glasgow fishbowl.
