Frustrating news from the Green Brigade related to the planned return of their Green Wall to the Jock Stein Stand, historically known as The Celtic End, for the next two SWPL1 games where the title-chasing Celtic FC women will take on Hearts and then Hibs in the coming months.
Earlier this week, North Curve Celtic announced their return to women’s matches at Celtic Park and I can’t think of any concerned member of the Celtic FC women’s team who wouldn’t have been so excited about the news.
In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that the Green Wall comeback could help Celtic FC’s women’s team win the first-ever SWPL1 trophy. So that’s important.
After this exciting news, today we returned to earth with a thud when the Ultras organization published a statement on their social networks indicating that this green wall would no longer occupy position and pointed to the doors of two senior Celtic executives.
“Despite our more productive intentions and efforts, the club has refused to provide The Celtic End for Celtic FC Women’s upcoming matches at Celtic Park,” the Green Brigade said.
“This is in stark contrast to last May’s matches, where fan representatives worked constructively with the club to announce matches and attract record audiences. “
Surely that’s accurate and anyone between the two record-breaking crowds will be able to tell you what impressive functionality the Celtic End enthusiasts put in to lead the team to victory each and every time, without any problems. So far so good.
Now things are going to get a little confusing with Celtic admins Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay facing harsh criticism. Again from The North Curve’s statement:
“This resolution was made through Michael Nicholson, Chief Executive Officer, and Chris McKay, Chief Financial Officer. It’s a vindictive opposition to the concept of The Celtic End, to the teams of fans of the concept, and to the thousands of enthusiasts who need attention to be paid to a segment of state purpose to rejuvenate a replaced Celtic Park.
North Curve Celtic continued: “Shamefully, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay would rather see Celtic FC Women penalised than have any other positive exposure for The Celtic End. Ironically, the move contradicts the club’s following the cancellation of away tickets at the recent SWPL Glasgow Derby. , which denounced others for undermining the promotion and progress of women’s football.
“At a critical time in the men’s and women’s seasons, we have no preference for interacting in a public dispute that could divert the positive from either team. For this reason, in addition to unreasonable obstacles, it is unfortunate that we do so. I will not be attending the upcoming Celtic FC Women matches at Celtic Park.
Therefore, as things stand, the Green Brigade will NOT attend the women’s event and there will be no Green Wall. This will likely have the negative effect they themselves fear.
