It has been announced that the team in which the reigning world champion plays is in negotiations to keep Checo in their squad.
This all follows several rumours in recent years that the Mexican driver saw his position at Red Bull in jeopardy, but it could bring some peace of mind to his professional career.
As reported via Total Motorsport this weekend, Checo Perez is close to signing his contract extension with Red Bull Racing for the next two seasons.
This means that the driver position would be secured, at least until the end of the 2025 campaign. They just want to go down to negotiate before the end of this year to start making plans for what 2024 will look like, both for Checo and his teammate, Max Emilian Verstappen.
This would be great news for Pérez’s performance, since beyond the disorders he encountered in several races of the recently ended F1 season, he managed to finish ahead of two motorsport legends, such as Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton and Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso; he also left behind the damaging Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
At the same time that these alleged negotiations to extend his contract crystallize, it is also important to emphasize that the Mexican driver’s interest is to be able to compete for the Formula 1 championship.
While it turns out that more will his own team give him the team to topple Verstappen, at least Checo Perez would like to have a more suitable car to avoid the difficulties he faced in the 2023 campaign.
Although he finished second overall, he had some setbacks in some qualifying races and Grands Prix.
In the end, it is expected that as soon as the information of his possible renewal and contract extension becomes official, both Sergio Perez and Red Bull Racing will make it official so that their fans around the world can rest assured that they will continue to be highly competitive for the following 2 Formula 1 seasons.
