LONDON – Chelsea hired Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy of French club Stade Rennes on a five-year contract, the Premier League announced on Thursday.
The main financial points of the measure were revealed, but british media reported that Chelsea had paid about 22 million pounds ($28. 01 million) for the 28-year-old with three years remaining on his contract in Rennes.
“I am very excited to sign for the Chelsea. Es a dream for me to be part of this exciting team and paint with Frank Lampard and all his coaches. I can’t wait to get started,” Mendy told the club’s website.
Mendy played 33 games in all competitions with Rennes last season and finished third in Ligue 1 to qualify for the Champions League.
Born in France, Mendy chose to form Senegal, the country where her mother was born, worldwide and has 8 international parties.

He was the goalkeeper for the time being to move from Rennes to Chelsea following petr Cech’s signing in 2004.
“As soon as Cech and our technical team recognized Edouard as the right top goalkeeper for our entire existing squad, we only wanted to incorporate one player,” said Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia.
“Edouard arrives after a season of real good luck with Rennes, has ambition to get more and we welcome him to our club.
Mendy’s signing follows the arrival of side Ben Chilwell, striker Timo Werner and extremes Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.
The London club has hired defenders Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr for loose transfers.
Chelsea’s resolution over his goalkeeper characteristics follows the decline in the form of Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga since last season, with his last mistake in the 2-0 loss to champion Liverpool last Sunday.
Chelsea, who finished fourth season to qualify for the Champions League in coach Frank Lampard’s first campaign, will meet West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
