Chelsea named Leicester manager Enzo Maresca as its new five-year contract on Monday to update the late Mauricio Pochettino.
The 44-year-old Italian joined the Foxes in June 2023 and led them to the league last season.
“We are very pleased to welcome Enzo to Chelsea,” said Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors.
“He has proven to be a trainer capable of delivering impressive effects with an exciting and relatable style.
“Enzo left a deep impression on us in our conversations prior to his appointment. His ambitions and his artistic ethic fit with those of the club. “
Maresca will start his new duties on July 1 with a five-year contract, with the club’s option for one more year.
“Joining Chelsea, one of the clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach,” he said. “That’s why I’m so excited about this opportunity.
“I look forward to running with a very talented player organization and expanding a team that continues the club’s culture of good fortune and makes our enthusiasts proud. “
Pochettino left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent last month after a turbulent season in which the club spent much of the crusade in the mid-table.
The team bounced back to win their final games of the season and earn a spot in the Europa Conference League.
They also reached the final of the League Cup and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Maresca will be the sixth coach to lead the first team since Todd Boehly’s Clearlake Capital consortium bought the club two years ago.
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on signings since Clearlake replaced Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
