NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Chelsea enthusiasts hoping for a quieter summer will be out of luck as the board is set to sanction a move window full of incomings and outgoings.
While Todd Boehly’s reign at the club has been around £1. 4 billion in spending, this summer it may be more about the other people the club gets rid of than the ones it recruits.
The club’s misguided movement policy has resulted in an inflated squad, which was only partially reduced last summer and in January.
The Blues’ hefty spending means they are walking a tightrope in Financial Fair Play and will trim the squad before contemplating any additional additions.
And, according to Football. London, that could mean up to 15 departures from the club.
Thiago Silva will leave when his contract expires, while Trevoh Chalobah will be sold despite signing a new long-term contract less than two years ago.
Conor Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s few bright sparks this season, but his contract expires in 2025 and the club are unwilling to close a new deal for the midfielder.
His homegrown quality is valuable to Chelsea and Spurs are interested in the England international.
Raheem Sterling may simply be an exit, while Malang Sarr, Carney Chukwuemeka, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke are also linked with departures.
Kepa, Ian Maatsen and Lewis Hall are currently on loan and the club will be looking for permanent offers for them.
The same goes for Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, David Fofana and Armando Broja.
