NEWS. . . BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes says Sam Kerr has her “full support” after the player was accused of molesting racist harassment this week.
The Australian, one of the biggest names in women’s football, has been charged in connection with an alleged incident in January 2023 involving a police officer.
Kerr was allegedly the Metropolitan Police’s PC Lovell, a “stupid white CP”, in the middle of an argument over the price of a cab and vomited in the back of the vehicle in Twickenham.
The 30-year-old, named Women’s Super League Player of the 2021-2022 season, has pleaded not guilty and is expected to stand trial next year.
Hayes threw his aid at Kerr, saying at a news conference, “Sam has all our help, she knows that.
“It’s a difficult time for her. Of course, I can’t comment, you know.
Asked if he was aware of the fee and his court appearance before Monday’s news broke, after Football Australia claimed he had no idea, Hayes added: “I can say I know he has pleaded not guilty.
“I don’t need to do anything that might endanger Sam by talking about it. For that reason, I’m sure that’s all I’m going to say about it.
“But she has our full support, she knows that, it’s vital that she conveys it, it’s something I appreciate. “
Kerr is Australia’s most no-nonsense foreign goalscorer of all time and the only footballer to have won the Golden Boot in three other leagues on three other continents.
