The existing transfer window may have an impact on the race for promotion at the top of the league this season, as Leicester City look to return directly to the Premier League.
City are currently the most sensible in the championship table, seven points ahead of second-placed Ipswich, who they face on Monday, and 10 points ahead of third-placed Southampton. The gap between City and fourth-placed Leeds is 17 points.
For the next few weeks, the teams towards the top of the league may look to do business to try and strengthen their squads for the second half of the campaign. For Enzo Maresca, his top target is midfielder Stefano Sensi, although players will have to be sold before the Italian can complete a move from Inter to the King Power Stadium.

While all eyes will be on the players who are most likely to get into clubs, those whose players are performing well can also find out who could attract interest from Premier League clubs. That’s where Chelsea come in.
It has been reported via TEAMtalk that Mauricio Pochettino is contemplating a possible move for Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters towards the end of the January window. The report states that “discussions” have been initiated with the agents and the club about a potential deal. .
Walker-Peters has been a standout player for Southampton this season as they now challenge for one of the automatic promotion places. The 16-year-old has played every minute of every Championship game for the Saints, scoring twice and providing a further two assists.
Pochettino previously worked with Walker-Peters during their time at Tottenham. While Southampton won’t be too keen on selling, if Chelsea make a big offer they may have no choice but to accept.
If a deal is reached towards the end of the window, Russell Martin’s men may have little time to point to a replacement before the window closes. James Bree is the only other recognised right-back in the team, having missed the last 4 league games.
With the promotion race in mind, City, along with Ipswich and Leeds, can closely monitor updates in the coming days and weeks. Everyone involved in the race for the two most sensible put options is hoping that the window of movement of the past few weeks is helping them and actually obstructing them.
