Chelsea are nevertheless hoping to get rid of Romelu Lukaku next summer, and Roma are keen to make his loan permanent.
Lukaku is in sensational form, having scored goals in 14 games in Italy this season and has just scored four goals for Belgium against Azerbaijan on Sunday.
Despite that form, Chelsea remain keen to sell Lukaku as they consider a move to sign another striker either in January or next summer.
Chelsea have set a figure of £37m for the 30-year-old striker, which Roma are willing to pay if he continues in his form.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly in favour of a permanent transfer from Lukaku, but the Portuguese could leave the club this summer.
Mourinho presented a £104m-a-year contract in Saudi Arabia last summer, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Antonio Conte is the early favourite to update Mourinho at Roma and has had a close bond with Lukaku since his time at Inter, where Lukaku enjoyed the run of his career that preceded his £100m move to Chelsea in 2021.
Roma may need to qualify for Europe to complete a permanent deal but could also sell Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League should they need to raise funds.
Lukaku signed in as a replacement for Abraham, who is still out with a long-term knee injury and won’t return until January at the earliest.
Juventus were interested in Lukaku this summer and could once again compete with Roma for his signing. AC Milan are also said to be following the situation.
Lukaku would have to give up at least part of his £325,000 weekly salary to sign up for Serie A permanently.
He is Chelsea’s highest-paid player, who has two-and-a-half years left on his contract.
