Chelsea headquarters Lewis Dunk has signed a new long-term contract with Brighton.

The Seagulls captain has put new terms in writing with the club that will keep him at Amex Stadium until 2025.

Chelsea allegedly covered a summer movement of 40 million pounds ($52 million) for Dunk, while Tottenham has also credited himself with an interest in hers in recent weeks.

However, the 28-year-old, however, has made the decision to extend his stay on the south coast, as he remains fully committed to Graham Potter’s Premier League project.

“I’m very happy to have signed a new contract,” Dunk said on the club’s official online website after Friday’s announcement. “The purpose now is to build a record Premier League season and the club will continue its recent progress over the next five years.”

Potter added about Dunk’s new contract: “We are very pleased that Lewis has made this long-term commitment to the club. This is wonderful news for everyone: the club, the fans, the team and me.”

“Since I got to the club, it’s been a joy to paint with him and he’s a reference player. We’re very lucky to have him.

“His role as captain is in which he grew up and will make him bigger and bigger in the coming years.

“He gives an example in the box and is a smart guy out of the box, an emotion to paint with him.

“We are all determined to move forward next season and identify the club in the Premier League and I am pleased that Lewis is with us on this trip.”

Dunk has amassed 309 appearances with Brighton since graduating from the last year in 2010, scoring 19 goals.

The England defender played a key role in helping Potter’s team overcome the fall last season, and his goal will be to push for a first-half final in 2020-21 after diving into the summer play market.

The Seagulls were to bring Adam Lallana on a single play after his departure from Liverpool, while Dutch foreigner Joel Veltman came to Amex from Ajax for only 1 million euros.

English midfielder Jensen Weir has also been recruited from Wigan Athletic, and confirmation of Dunk’s continued service will be a great condiment for enthusiasts ahead of the new season.
