Terry, 39, played 717 games for the Blues and won 15 trophies in the primary in his 20-year career at Chelsea.
But it could have been so different if Sir Alex Ferguson had succeeded.
In the early 1990s, Terry was a schoolboy who played for the senrab Sunday League home team in Barking, Essex, and was considered one of the most productive young players in the country.
At the time, he played in midfield, not in defence, and all the clubs sent scouts to monitor him, adding to Manchester United.
Ferguson did his best to inspire the captain of England to move to Old Trafford when he turned 17 and was able to set professional conditions.
And in a 2001 interview, Terry revealed that at the age of 13, he had been invited to sign up for United superstars for his pre-match meal at Upton Park before betting on his home team, West Ham.

Aston Villa’s assistant manager said Ferguson had asked him who his player was.
And when Paul Ince responded, the legendary United technician told Terry to sit down and eat at Ince’s table.
Terry said: “It’s unbelievable. I’m sitting next to Paul Ince, my favorite player, and I’m afraid to eat in case I drop my food.”
Terry then signed for Chelsea, admits he was divided.
“It’s a complicated decision,” he said.
“Manchester United is my club and my father’s club. We were enthusiastic crazy people and Eric Cantona and Ince were my heroes.
“He disillusioned my father, but he may see that Chelsea is going places.”
Since then, Terry has revealed that his father was so disappointed in his resolve to make a signal to Chelsea that he refused to sign up for the circle of relatives for the signature photo at the Stamford Bridge field.
Terry told the podcast The Footballer’s Guide to Football: “My father never looked for me to signal Chelsea.
“In fact, in the painting where I signed my school form at the club, my father refused to spend the painting with me.

“I’m in the tunnel, the players are coming off the court and I’m waiting in the tunnel, Glenn Hoddle is passing by and my dad says, ‘You’re not signaling for this football club, we’re signaling for Man United.’
“Again, being me right now I say, “I am 100%, here I point, if you don’t come with me, I pointed out.”
“And you’re a relative, so my mother said she’d come to warn me, my father is going crazy against my mother, “No, you won’t.”
“There’s a picture of my mother and Graham Rix signing my contract, but my father refused and surely that night.
“Once again, being the character of IArray, I met Chelsea for me.”
Terry also explains that, as a schoolboy, he had been taken several times to Old Trafford, in the same car as David Beckham.
Terry said, “I went to Man United for a year, so I was traveling during the school holidays I did with David Beckham when he signed his first professional contract.”
“We got in the car together, I got there for a two-week educational camp.”
