Chelsea ‘in talks with Mauricio Pochettino but CUT Luis Enrique off list of manager candidates’

CHELSEA has reportedly contacted former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino about his vacant checkpoint.

The 51-year-old Argentine has been unemployed since saying goodbye to Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season, and SunSport confirmed in January that he was on Chelsea’s radar.

But he is now connected as Graham Potter’s permanent replacement at Stamford Bridge.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues have contacted Pochettino on paper.

The former Spurs head coach joins Julian Nagelsmann on the list of Chelsea managers the club could choose.

But Luis Enrique was NOT among the most productive contenders for the position.

The 52-year-old Spaniard flew to London for talks with club bosses two weeks ago, but things have not progressed since.

And that may leave the door open for Spurs, who love the former Barcelona player despite Daniel Levy in the past expressing reservations about his lack of Premier League experience.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim is now seen as an underdog for Chelsea’s role.

Nagelsmann had talks with the West London club last week and reportedly inspired his interview.

But the other people in the club are reluctant to call him the favorite.

Pochettino interviewed Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali before leaving with Potter.

Potter, 47, lasted seven months on the job before being fired.

And defender Thiago Silva claimed after Chelsea’s Champions League final on Tuesday night that the players deserve to start chasing everyone, as well as blaming the coach.

He told TNT Sports Brazil: “I think the first step has been taken, a step, but it has been taken.

“We can’t blame the coaches if we don’t take responsibility. It’s a complicated moment for the club, with a lot of indecision.

“Change of ownership, arrival of new players: we had to increase the length of the dressing room because it fit the length of the team.

“One positive thing is that there are amazing players in the team, but on the other hand, there are players who won’t be happy.

“There will be someone disappointed because not everyone can play. The manager can only decide on 11 from a team of 30 other people, it’s difficult. “

“Some can’t be part of the team, we signed 8 in January, we have to prevent and put a strategy in position in a different way next season, we can make the same mistakes. “

Chelsea will look to end a seven-game winless streak through Brentford on Wednesday.

Caretaker boss Frank Lampard has lost all four matches since taking over earlier this month.

That leaves the Blues 11th in the Premier League table, ten points away from a European position with seven games to play.
