Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about Liverpool’s failure to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, poking fun at the Chelsea pair in the process.
Caicedo and Lavia both rejected transfers to Anfield in favor of Stamford Bridge this summer, with the Blues shelling out more than £150m to sign the midfield duo.
Caicedo has since struggled to replicate the form at Brighton which saw Chelsea, and Liverpool, prepared to splash the cash, while Lavia is yet to make his debut after a succession injury setbacks.
Speaking at the Anfield Road Stand test event on Monday, Klopp asked about his revamped squad and their march to the top of the Premier League table and showed he believes the club have dodged some balls with Wataru’s third-choice signing. Endo.
He said, “The summer we had, things happened in the moving market, but here between us, I can say ‘Oh my God, we were lucky, huh?'”
“We didn’t know it at the time and we didn’t feel like it at the time, but yes, I’m glad it worked, but you never know before.
He added: “We clearly realised that other centre-back midfielders didn’t need to sign for Liverpool, you see what happens, and then we discovered Endo. He’s an exceptional player. . . I definitely wanted to come and that helps. “
