John Obi Mikel has revealed that he and Didier Drogba have been in contact with Victor Osimhen to convince him to sign for Chelsea.
Osimhen has long been a target for the Blues, with reports suggesting he is one of the four strikers the club are tracking with the new Premier League season just days away.
Napoli have agreed to let go of their talisman but insist their €130m (£110. 8m) release clause will have to be triggered, discouraging Chelsea and their other PSG fans.
Chelsea would like to bring the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge on a first loan deal, but it is unclear where the player himself stands on the transfer.
But according to Obi Mikel, Osimhen “loves” Chelsea and would be willing to move, with the Blues legend claiming he and former teammate Drogba have done their part to convince the Nigerian to sign for Enzo Maresca’s side.
“We don’t want someone who comes to feed themselves and create opportunities. We wish someone who can shoot, score goals and take touches,” said Obi Mikel.
“Someone like Erling Haaland. This is the one that Victor Osimhen will bring to Chelsea.
“I hope that the Chelsea fans, after all, will see him coming to the club. I’ll be sure to send her those texts and calls, making sure Chelsea is her top priority!
“But it turns out that he loves the club and needs to come to Chelsea. I’m sure all the big clubs need to sign him. I think that if we can get his signage it would be for the club.
“He’s someone who will allow us to achieve goals and that’s all we want right now. He’s a fantastic guy, a fantastic human being and I hope he comes to the club and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen. “
“Didier also talks to him, he shares his own concepts and what the Club tells us. We all need to see Victor get to the Club. Si happens, will happen.
“It’s a huge fee but if we can adapt it and bring him to the club that would be fantastic. ”
Chelsea have struggled since the takeover of Todd Boehly and have embarked on a spending spree under new manager Maresca, with nine new signings so far at a cost of more than £161m.
“It’s Chelsea Football Club, you have to win games, you have to win trophies,” added Obi Mikel.
“Yes, we give them time. Enough time has passed for us to come together as a team and start playing much better.
